&& the sun's rising to a new day...
Mia sat on the swing hanging on the porch of the Wood residence. Her long brown hair was pulled abck that morning into a messy bun and she wore a pair of sweats and a tank top. Her big brown eyes gazed over the neighborhood as she looked out on Harper Valley. It was only about 7:00 and the sun had just pulled itself up in the sky. Her coffee cup kept her fingertips warm as she sipped her hot cocoa tinted addiction casually.
Mia wasn't one to hate early mornings. Ever sicne her parents had passed, Mia had gotten into the groove of waking early to make the coffee and set things up for the day. Sometimes that meant sending one of her sisters to summer day camp or jsut making sure they stayed out of trouble. Holly was dating that Matt kid and it worried Mia sometimes. She hated to think her baby sister was off with Matt doing god only knew what and more. She thanked god daily that Willow wasn't dating yet.
Her head shifted back on the cushion as the swing swayed back and forth. A smile graced her well featured face as she felt more comfortable than ever in her own skin. Mia wouldn't publicly admit it, but she loved who she was. It always made her laugh. She pulled the folded over newspaper out from its place half-way curled under the swing seat cushion. She flipped through the pages until she could the cross-word puzzle and snagged her pen from its secret hiding place on the window sill. She at least and hour before the girls would be up, might as well spend that hour for herself.
She'd wondered if she had many friends left around Harper Valley. She didn't have time for the usual things teens did so, Mia had pretty much given up on that entire bit. She spent too much time playing mommy and not enough time with people her age. She was still getting used to their parents being gone even though it had been almost over a year. Somehow, that change was one she'd never fully get used to.

Willow Wood opened the door leading to the porch of the house and closed it gently. She couldn't sleep this night and decided that she could use some fresh air and look at the surroundings for her enjoyment. She was surprised that she even woke up this early and the bright yellow sun was already up and going for the day. Even with the sun, it was still chilly in the air. Her hair was still down and messy and was wearing a violet bath robe and violet bunny slippers.
She shivered in her bathrobe and rubbed her hands together as she was looking at the sky. It only took her about three minutes to realize a strong scent of coffee, she turned to her left and found a figure, Mia writing on the newspaper, doing crosswords no doubt, while quaffing her coffee. Willow suddenly wondered if it was ok for her to get up this early in the morning as Mia was now the new adult of the house, everything was under her command. She sighed quietly enough for Mia not to hear, crossing her fingers in the pockets of her bathrobe hoping that she wouldn't get mad at her.
"Morning sis, I couldn't sleep at all so I went down here. How did you sleep?" Willow asked nervously still shivering and keeping her fingers crossed. She bit her lip nervously and sat beside her on the long swing. She kept her eyes on the sky as it became more and more of a light blue and clouds started to become brighter and brighter because of the sun. Mia always said to her that their mom liked to watch the sky change. And that alone made Willow very happy, she frequently thought about her parents and missed them, the air around the house was different when they aren't around. At night when she thought of them she would cry, it just wasn't the same at all, time seems to be going slower as well as people she knew wasn't acting quite the same as they usually were, or it was just her own little imagination. But all at once she enjoyed life and was happy about it, she was happy to be with most of the ones she cares for.
